Yard waste will be collected weekly west of Second Avenue on Tuesdays and east of Second Avenue on Thursdays. The routes will begin in the spring and come to a close on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. If a holiday lands on a Tuesday or Thursday, the yard waste will be picked up that week accordingly.
A) Bags: Any organic mixed yard waste, such as grass, leaves, twigs and garden waste will be collected in city-approved and designated bags, and will not be collected in any other container. Bags must not exceed 75 pounds. City approved bags will be available at City Hall and at local businesses.
B) Bundles: Tree trimmings, brush, and twigs will also be collected if properly bundled. Tied bundles of tree trimmings and brush shall be collected if bundles do not exceed 75 pounds, 18 inches in diameter and 5 feet in length. The bundles should be tied with biodegradable twine or string. Branch size should not exceed 5 inches in diameter. A maximum of three bundles will be collected per collection day. Larger quantities of branches are considered commercial collection and are the responsibility of the owner.
C) Burning: Residents are currently allowed to carefully burn dry leaves and twigs. City ordinance prohibits the burning of any trash, garbage and green or damp yard waste.
Residents are welcome to haul yard waste and brush to the Waste Water Treatment Facility located at 1065 W. Buchanan St., where the collected material is hauled and piled. Hours at the WWTF are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during weekdays excluding holidays.
Questions can be directed to the City M/C Dept at 319-653-2947.
