Young engineers fill Lincoln library

The new 4-H STEM Club filled every chair in the Lincoln Library after school Jan. 10 for the first meeting to learn about Go Green Engineering. The 30 participants defined technology in a new way, saw the large recycling and reusing nature of Senegal through a video, built their own recycled wheel and axle systems, tested them and started designing their own recycled race cars. This 4-H STEM Club will meet again Jan. 17 and 24 to complete their recycled racer designs, build tracks, test them and improve them as engineers would. Their final challenge will be to race down the hallways.

Washington County Extension and 4-H and Lincoln Elementary are partnering together with a sponsorship from Bazooka Farmstar to offer this 4-H STEM Club to any third-to fifth-grade student who wants to experiment more with science, technology, engineering, and math.

A community showcase is planned for Jan. 24, at 4:30 p.m., to showcase what the students have learned and built in the ?Go Green Engineering? sessions. Any community member is welcome to come learn more from these students and see their recycled racers in action.

The STEM Club February session is already full, however, a March and April session will start advertising soon.
