WASHINGTON ? Washington County Extension and Outreach will be hosting a Beginning Young Farmers meeting on March 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension office.
This meeting will evaluate options available for purchasing farmland as a beginning farmer. Ryan Drollette, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Farm Management Specialist will share programs available to beginning farmers and evaluate a land purchase through a case study.
The evening will begin with a brief update on Palmer amaranth, a relatively new weed to Iowa and how to identify it from other pigweeds, including waterhemp from Meaghan Anderson and Rebecca Vittetoe, ISU Extension field agronomists.
A light meal will be provided at 5:30 pm. The meeting is open to all beginning farmers from southeast Iowa.
There is no charge for the event, but please RSVP to the Washington County Extension office at 319-653-4811 or nadrian@iastate.edu by noon on March 29.
