Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week's ‘Friend on the Front Page' is Stephanie Stubbs, whom you may know from Iowa Wesleyan University.
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant? What brought you here? I moved here in the late ‘90s. I came here during high school here cause my parents' jobs were further south; (it made) the commute easier.
What is your favorite part of living here? The small-town atmosphere really makes you feel like you're at home. It's really nice. One of the gentlemen who owned a funeral home would send us news articles from when I was doing sports in high school so that during graduation we would laminate them and put them up. People in the town support you and just really make you feel at home.
What is your favorite local hangout? I love going to my church, Open Bible, right across from Van Allen Elementary School; and Nathan who owns the Paul Rever's Pizza recently remodeled in there, so that's a really nice place to go and sit.
What is your favorite winter activity? Being inside and being warm, Winters basketball season and that's one of my favorite sports.
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn't have that you'd like to see? Maybe a breakfast place. Papa George's does breakfast every now and again, so if there was an all-night breakfast place like Village Inn or Perkins that would be sweet.
What's one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? Butch's River Rock Cafe that's out down by Oakland Mills has some really good food. I'm a fan of food if you haven't noticed.
Tell us something interesting about you? I started with Henry County Sheriff's Office for almost five years, I just stepped down in August. That was volunteer and I was adjuncting here and then I came full time.
