Every week, the Mt. Pleasant News will feature a Henry County resident in a profile snapshot. The questions will appear in bold.
This week's friend is Jana Crull of Mt. Pleasant.
Are you originally from Mt. Pleasant/Henry County? If not, what brought you here? I am not. Ten years ago, I accepted a position with HCI, now Everystep Hospice in Mt. Pleasant. While participating in the Old Threshers parade, I met Mark, who has lived here almost his whole life. We married two years later. We have five children and four grandchildren.
What is your favorite part of living here? The people. Mt. Pleasant is a friendly and supportive community. I love this town!
What is your favorite local hangout? I love to stop in at Miss K's, Homemade Delectables for breakfast or lunch with my family. It's always fun to visit with the Watts family that owns it and see what awesome goodies they have.
What do you like to do in your free time? I love to volunteer in the community and at church; stamping and scrapbooking; riding horses. However, my favorite thing is to spend time with my family.
What is your favorite summer activity? Vacations with family.
What is one thing you've not tried that you would like to? Growing my own garden.
Is there something Mt. Pleasant doesn't have that you'd like to see? A putt-putt golf course.
What's one dish or drink that reminds you of Mt. Pleasant? Giant Tenderloin sandwich.
Tell us something interesting about you? Two years ago, I became one of a handful of people ever to receive an auto kidney transplant at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. I was actually the first woman my transplant team had attempted this on. They removed my left kidney and reimplanted it in a new location on the right side. It was an 18-hour ordeal. I am blessed and thankful that it was successful.
