Youth participate in Washington County Fair Communication Event

This contest is open to 9th-12th grade 4-Hers who draw three current issue topics, select one, write a speech for 30 minutes, and then present to a judge with their 4-6 minute speech. Two were selected for the Iowa State Fair: Joanna Vakulich of the Kalona Klassics and Adelyn Huston of the Limecreek Livewires.

There were 21 junior age presenters from 5th – 6th grade who shared Educational Presentations at the Washington County Fair Communication Night. Annabelle Septer of Prairie Pride was selected as State Fair alternate. Aftyn Huston of the Limecreek Livewires was recognized as the top Junior presenter and will represent Washington County at the State Fair in August. John Koch of the Limecreek Livewires also earned State Fair honors. John Ruth of the Riverside Ramblers received the Judge’s Choice Award for his presentation.

The Washington County Fair Communications Event was held on Tuesday, July 9, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Seventy-five 4-H’ers gave educational presentations or participated in the extemporaneous speaking division. According to the three visiting judges in charge of evaluation for the evening they said this county has so much to be proud of.
