Fledgling WACO FFA chapter growing by leaps and bounds
WACO FFA
Feb. 22, 2022 11:19 am
For the future. For all. Not only is this the theme of the National FFA Organization this year, but it has been the driving force behind the newly re-established WACO FFA program.
The chapter is proud to report that we have increased our membership to 70 members for this academic year. Members have been working hard in the classroom as well as participating in events offered through the Iowa FFA.
Second semester brought a change of classes for members to enroll in within our program.
Current class offerings include animal science, introduction to agriculture, agricultural mechanics, plant sciences, and an eighth-grade exploratory. These classes work to highlight current agricultural practices in various industries, push students to think critically about ways to make them better, and prepare students for a career in agriculture.
We are excited to report total class enrollment of 96 students!
A busy spring is brewing for members participating in FFA events. Two teams recently competed in the Iowa Pork Congress Youth Judging Contest where they received 14th and 43rd out of 157 teams overall. Six individuals are also preparing to compete at the Iowa Beef Expo judging contest in February.
National FFA week is celebrated Feb. 19-26. Chapter officers have been busy planning schoolwide events to get all students involved.
During FFA week, the WACO FFA will be sending four representatives to Sub-District Leaderships Contests to compete in contests.
The capstone event of the FFA calendar year is the State Leadership Conference that will be held in April. We are happy to report that over 20 WACO members will be attending to participate in Career Development Events!
After a busy and successful fall semester, the Chapter Officer Team is happy to share these upcoming spring events. They would like to thank all the people who have been involved in making this new chapter a success.
We are excited to see what the future holds and will continue to work in making sure that we create a program where everyone can be involved within the agriculture industry.
If you would like to support the program in any way or share your agricultural knowledge, please contact the chapter at wacoffa@wacocsd.org.
