A small fire Thursday afternoon caused minor damage to the front porch of a house on the 100 block of North Adams Street in Mt. Pleasant. A police officer at the scene said the fire started in a container on the porch. A passerby, the officer said, used a fire extinguisher to nearly put out the fire before Mt. Pleasant firemen arrived. The fire department made sure the fire did not rekindle.

The Cherry Street and Mapleleaf Drive intersection in Mt. Pleasant will be closed weather permitting for 10 to 14 days, effective immediately.
