Members and friends of the Cedar Creek Church in rural Salem gathered last Sunday, Oct. 11, for fellowship and a chance to say good-bye. The church will be closing its doors in December after 174 years. The church is closing due to lack of membership and the need for facility repairs.

A kitchen stove was cited as the cause of a fire that spread throughout a trailer, causing major damage.The fire occurred on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Green Valley Trailer Court, in Mt. Pleasant.According to Mt. Pleasant Fire Chief Stewart Kinney, no one was home at the time of the fire.Ten firefighters responded to the fire and were on the scene for about an hour, Kinney added.
Area families flocked to the jam packed Mt. Pleasant Fire Department's annual open house on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Festivities included fire safety obstacle courses for the kids. Children also had a chance to try on real firefighting gear and tour various fire trucks. Staff of the fire department were also on hand to meet with the public and answer questions about fire safety.
