Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds will host a two-hour public meeting in Mt. Pleasant on the severe dry and D1 drought conditions that have plagued Iowa this summer.The meeting is set for Tuesday, July 17, at 9 a.m. in the Mt. Pleasant High Community High School Gymnasium.The meeting will also include officials from several state agencies and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Ride Around Henry County was held Saturday despite the record-high heat. The ride began at McMillan Park in Mt. Pleasant and then went south to Salem where participants then chose to complete a 45-mile ride or 75-mile ride. Pictured, two cyclists begin their trek just before 8 a.m. Saturday.

This memorial stone has recently been erected on the north side of Skunk River Road just east of the dam, in memory of Wallace ?Wally? Brokken. Although it is currently situated high on a mound of dirt, Brokken?s wife, Lois, and daughters are planning to landscape the area.
