WASHINGTON ? Eight members of Fairfield?s 36-man roster were on hand for the season-opening Washington Relays Thursday night, but although the group was thin, a few Trojans were able to get their feet wet.
Between spring break, a chorus trip and a few early-season ineligibilities limiting the roster head coach Brian Dunlap?s goal was to stay healthy and see what some young guys could do in the chilly conditions.
Alex Simpson, Mason Carnahan, Kooper Dahlstrom and Heath Jackson teamed up for Fairfield?s top finish of the night as they took first place in the 4x200 relay.
?The conditions weren?t great, so I wasn?t going to punish anyone, but we got quite a bit out of them,? Dunlap said. ?The sprinters had a pretty good night, especially Heath Jackson.?
Jackson followed up with a second-place result in Class B of the 100-meter dash (11.49), and also anchored the 4x100 team to a runner-up finish. Simpson, Dahlstrom and Carnahan also ran the 4x1.
The Trojans were in Class B along with four other teams while Class A was filled with seven teams, including Mount Pleasant and Washington, and Class C had eight teams.
Cody Kool added fourth-place results in both the discus (111? 4?) and shot put (39? 2?).
?The commitment and dedication from these guys sticking around this week and competing is definitely appreciated,? Dunlap added. ?Now we look forward to getting everyone back and really digging in.?
Fairfield will be competing again next week at the Mount Pleasant Relays on Thursday.

Nite held off Keota?s Trevor Draisey to win the event in 5:12. He also took fourth place in the 400-meter dash in 56.92.
Brenden Park added another fourth-place result in the 100-meter dash for the Pioneers with a time of 11.79.
MSAE was eighth in the final Class C team standings wit 20 points.
