Dean Schafer, 76, of Brighton died Friday evening, April 20, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Madea Saunders officiating. The body has been cremated.
The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dean Schafer, 76, of Brighton died Friday evening, April 20, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Ronald Dean Schafer was born Sept. 29, 1935. at home in the Merrimac community of Jefferson County, the son of Jey and Mary Maxine Emerson Schafer. He married Sharon A. Larson Feb. 21, 1965, at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.
Mr. Schafer lived his entire life on the Century Family Farm where he was born.
Mr. Schafer graduated from Fairfield High School in 1953.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve unit in Washington, Iowa.
He was a farmer and loved to hunt and fish. He had a shack at the Rutledge, Mo., flea market for many years.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Amy Schafer of St. Louis, Mo., and Kim Kersbergen, husband Jeff of Pella; two grandsons; his mother Maxine Humphreys of Burlington; and one sister, Janis Seering of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his father Jey Schafer.
