WASHINGTON ? The Fairfield girls? bowling team ended up on the short end of a slim 34-pin margin that separated three teams at Saturday?s Southeast Conference meet.
The Trojan girls finished in fourth place with a final tally of 2406 while the boys bested Washington with a score of 2567 to take third place. Keokuk won both the boys and girls? title with final team scores of 2752 and 2517, respectively.
Derek Scearcy and Mitch Dorothy garnered all-conference honors for the Fairfield boys while Alyssa Chatfield landed on the girls? team.
In the boys? match, Fairfield found themselves just 20 pins behind eventual champion Keokuk after round one, but suffered through three baker games under 150 to lose ground. Scearcy led the Trojans in round one with a two-game series score of 379 followed by Dorothy bowling 73 pins above his average to end up with a 373. Jordan van Blaricom rolled a 348, Kevin Thorn chipped in 329 and Josh Cooper bowled a 304 to complete the round one scoring.
On the girls? side, Fairfield ended up just nine pins short of Mount Pleasant (2415) and 34 short of Washington (2440) as Alyssa Chatfield led the way with a two-game series of 362. Shannan Baker posted a personal best game of 186 ? 66 above her average ? en route to a 339 series followed by Amanda Chatfield (318), Sam Ruckman (311) and Megan Harris (288).
?Having only 34 pins separate second to fourth place gives the girls something to look forward to next week [at the district meet in Mount Pleasant],? said head coach Lisa Greenig. ?They did well in Mt. Pleasant earlier this year, and our girls believe they can do well there again.?
The Trojans? season will be on the line at Saturday?s district meet, which will feature all four team from the SEC meet as well as Louisa-Muscatine. It is slated to start at 11:30 a.m. at Iris Bowling Center in Mount Pleasant.
