Mosbey goes deep for Pekin at Eddyville
EDDYVILLE ? Field events carried the Pekin boys? track team to a second place finish at Tuesday?s Rocket Relays in Eddyville, and nobody shouldered a heavier load than Zach Mosbey.
The Panthers finished only behind host Eddyville-Blakesburg in the final team standings, but Mosbey came in behind nobody in both throwing events. The senior launched a career best ? by nearly 20 feet ? with a 157-feet, 3.75-inch discus

The senior launched a career best ? by nearly 20 feet ? with a 157-feet, 3.75-inch discus throw to win the event by nearly 30 feet. Mosbey then equaled a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 52-feet, four-inches. Derek Morales and Austin Adam added third place results in the discus (124? 7.5?) and shot put (42? 8?), respectively.
Middle-distance runner Brady Lamb did what he does best for Pekin winning the open 800 (2:02) as well as anchoring the winning 4x800 squad (8:32) led off by Phillip Laux, Eli Harper and Graham Wittrock.
?I?m happy with our field events and distance runners, and if we can improve on the sprints, we?ll really have some momentum heading into next week,? said head coach Davis Eidahl.
The Panthers have nearly a week off before running two meets next week to wrap up the regular season beginning with Monday?s trip to the Warrior Relays at Van Buren.
Cardinal finishes in seventh
EDDYVILLE ? Cardinal?s AJ Rachford finally fell short of a meet?s 110-meter hurdle crown, and it took the Drake Relays second-place finisher Jacob Batterson to take it.
Rachford placed second in the event behind Eddyville-Blakesburg?s Batterson to help Cardinal to a seventh-place finish in the final team standings with 27 points.
Raymond Booth also ran well for the Comets taking fourth in the 800 (2:11) as well as running the third leg on Cardinal?s shuttle-hurdle team. Jake Scherer, Tanner Chance and Rachford filled out the relay that crossed the finish line in 1:05.23.
Cardinal will run at the Van Buren Warrior Relays Tuesday before hosting the Bob Gerard Relays to conclude the regular season next Thursday.
