Regal shooters too much for Fairfield boys
After seeing Iowa City Regina jump out to a 21-3 first quarter lead in the girls? contest, the Regals pushed a similar fate on the Fairfield boys.
6-foot, 7-inch big man Braden Lehman scored nine of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter and helped make Regina (12-5) a 72-26 winner by the end of the night.

?We just didn?t play very hard, and it?s frustrating to be this late in the season and roll over and take one on the chin,? said Fairfield head coach Tyler Miklo. ?They?re a great ball club, but they shot the ball well and that?s what made it tough.?
Grant Curran scored all five points for Fairfield (2-13) in the first quarter, but couldn?t keep pace with the inside-outside combination attack from the Regals. Curran hit a jumper to make the score 6-3 early, but long balls started falling for Regina as it ran away.
Nate Streb found found the net from long range just before the first-quarter buzzer to make the score 21-5 at the break, and Regina went on to hit five 3-pointers in the first half and nine in the game.
?It was a mental task because we knew coming in that Fairfield is in a rebuilding situation,? said Regals? head coach Randy Larson. ?We talked about the fact that we only get 21 games, we don?t want to take a step backward and I was real happy with our execution on both ends.?
Ryan Lynch scored a deep heave as the halftime buzzer sounded and was one of eight different Regals to score from behind the arc.
Curran led Fairfield with 12 points while Jordan Leazer and Dillon Fry each added four. Leazer came down with four rebounds and Davis Lowenberg added three points.
Next up for the Trojans is a four-game week starting with Monday?s trip to Eddyville-Blakesburg.
