A collision occurred on Friday when a semi was going the wrong way on the eastbound exit 229 near Westwood.
On March 15 at approximately 6:04 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff's office received a report of a wrong way semitractor-trailer on the eastbound exit 229. The driver of the semi, Steve Helgen of Fredericksburg, collided with a red 1995 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Nicholas Hill of Rome. Due to injuries sustained from the crash, Hill was transported from the scene to the Henry County Health Center for treatment. Mt. Pleasant Fire, Henry County Paramedics and the Iowa DOT were on scene to assist with the incident.
Helgen was given citations for Violating One-Way Traffic Desingation, Unsafe Back on Highway and Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device. He was also summoned to court for Driving Under Suspension.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
