13-year-old faces nine charges after alleged vehicle theft

WINFIELD - A 13-year-old was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing a vehicle and attempting to elude law enforcement.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office received a call at approximately 11:23 p.m. about a vehicle that had been taken without the owner's consent, according to a news release from the office.
Deputies located the vehicle at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Winfield Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The 13-year-old driver fled from the scene and a short pursuit began on Grand Avenue.
The driver stopped at the intersection of Maple Leaf Drive and Grand Avenue after nearly losing control of the vehicle.
After being arrested, the driver was released to a guardian.
The 13-year-old was charged with eluding, operating a vehicle without the owner's consent, reckless driving, failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle, operating a non-registered vehicle, speeding, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without a valid driver's license and failing to obey a traffic control device.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Winfield Police Department and the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
