RIVERSIDE — Starting Monday, July 1, 2024, 140th Street will be closed to traffic, from Vine Avenue east approximately a quarter mile. This closure is necessary to allow the contractor, DeLong Construction, Inc., of Washington, to reconstruct this stretch of road. Specifically, the contractor will be grading the road to improve the vertical profile, replace some culverts and improve drainage before resurfacing the road. The contractor is expecting the work will take approximately four weeks, weather permitting, to complete.
With the road being closed to traffic, locals needing to travel through the area will need to utilize 150th Street and Iowa River Road to reach 140th Street. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling on these roads as they work to get around.
In addition to working on 140th Street, the contractor will be placing fill material in various locations along the shoulder on Vine Avenue. This is being done to help flatten the foreslope and improve the roadside. In order for this work to be accomplished, there will be a need for intermittent lane closures and traffic will be directed through the area with the use of portable traffic signals.
