2-car accident at Washington Street and South Grand Avenue intersection Friday

There were no injuries reported after a two-vehicle collision in the intersection of East Washington Street and South Grand Avenue on Friday, Feb. 22, around 7:47 a.m.
Josh Collings, of Algona, was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger east on Washington Street when he failed to stop at a four-way stop. He drove toward the East Washington Street and South Grand Avenue intersection at or near 35 miles per hour and struck Mariea Plendl, of Hampton, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Sienna, according to a police report. Plendl had the right of way and was driving north through the intersection.
Collings was at fault. He is being charged with failure to stop or yield at the stop sign. There were no injuries. Both vehicles appeared to be totaled with combined damage of $10,000.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Henry County Sheriff's office, the Iowa State Patrol, the Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, an ambulance and Tiger Towing.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
