2 charged after high speed chase Friday

Two people were arrested and charged after attempting to flee law enforcement officers in a high-speed chase on Friday, Dec. 21, around 1 a.m.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling northbound in the 2500-grid of Franklin Avenue at a high rate of speed on Friday. The vehicle continued speeding and attempted to evade the patrol vehicle.
The pursuit continued toward Mt. Pleasant before the occupants, Preston Macomber, 25, of Decorah, and Aric Russell, 20, of Mt. Pleasant, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Russell was charged with Interference of Official Acts and Operating a Vehicle Without Owner's Consent. Macomber was charged with Reckless Driving, Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicles, Driving under Suspension, Interference with Official Acts and other traffic citations.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
