2 downtown investment grants awarded

Downtown Washington will be seeing construction this summer as two Downtown Investment Grants (DIG) were approved by the Washington City Council for DW Development's 'Lofts on Iowa” and Greiner Buildings' phase two plans, for additional office space.

The first grant, approved for DW Development, was for $48,500, for three apartments to go into the former Bodyworks location, above the current Y on the Square. The grant will go toward all new plumbing, HVAC and electrical.

There will be two, two-bedroom apartments and one studio in the space. The projected timeline is for construction to begin summer 2019 and wrap up by fall 2019.

Greiner Buildings also received a DIG for $32,000 for phase two of their construction plans. They will be turning the second floor of their building into additional office space. It will have six additional offices, a conference room and kitchenette. The funding will go toward new HVAC and electrical and is set to begin immediately with a projected end date of summer 2019.
