A Mt. Pleasant man and a Burlington man were arrested last week in Henry County in separate traffic stops for possession of a controlled substance.
Robin James Walton was arrested for Posession of a Controlled Substance Second Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, after being pulled over for a traffic stop at the intersection of East Washington Street and South Walnut Street in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday, Dec. 6. He was in possession of methamphetamine.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office canine unit was deployed on scene. They alerted to the odor of narcotics and drugs emitting from the vehicle.
Walton was also charged with Operating While Under the Influence Second Offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, and Driving While License was Under Suspension, a simple misdemeanor. He was also given citation for failing to provide proof of financial liability, operating a non-registered vehicle and driving without a valid driver's license.
Walton was stopped because the registration of the vehicle was expired from March 2018. He was driving a red 1997 Mercury Tracer LS.
Earlier that week, Jermaine Lavelle Carr, of Burlington, was driving a black 2006 Hyundai Azera near the intersection of 260th Street and Highway 34 near New London on Monday, Dec. 3, when he was pulled over for a traffic stop. Carr was driving with a barred driver's license.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office canine unit was also deployed at the scene and alerted to the odor of narcotics being emitted from the vehicle. After a subsequent search of the vehicle, it was found that Carr was in possession of a controlled substance.
Carr was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail where he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance - Marijuana First Offense, a serious misdemeanor, and Driving While Barred, an aggravated misdemeanor. A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
