3 Burlington women killed after train struck vehicle

Three Burlington women were fatally injured Saturday after an eastbound train broadsided their vehicle.
According to a crash report released by the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred Saturday, April 13 at approximately 11:30 a.m., as a BNSF train traveling east broadsided a vehicle leaving a private residence off Old Highway 34 near Danville, killing three Burlington women.
The report states the vehicle failed to yield at a driveway corssing when it was stuck by the train, causing the vehicle to roll before coming to rest in a nearby ditch.
The victims were identified as Amber Curry, 29, as the driver and Laura Burch, 27, and Anna Smith, 26, as passengers. All three women were from Burlington.
There were no traffic controls at the private crossing.
The accident investigation remains ongoing at this time.
