Principal Todd Liechty, with Mt. Pleasant Community High School, and members of the Agriculture Education Committee interviewed four candidates for the agriculture education instructor position last week for the 2019-2020 school year.
The candidates are 'full of vigor and ready to go,” Liechty said at a school board meeting on Monday, Feb. 11.
Liechty said the Agriculture Education Committee did a great job encouraging candidates that the community is supportive of the new program, which will launch for three years before being reviewed by the school board.
Jenn Crull, school board member and Agriculture Education Committee member, said they have over $200,000 out of $300,000 raised for the program.
Three of the candidates will graduate from Iowa State University and one will graduate from Northwest Missouri State in May. Two men and two women were interviewed.
In other news, the school board approved a cooperative agreement for boys' swimming with the Burlington Community School District.
One student requested to join a swim team for the 2019-2020 school year since Mt. Pleasant Community High School (MPCHS) doesn't have a swim program.
It costs MPCHS $500 per student to participate with the Burlington swim team. Students are required to find their own transportation.
