Forty years ago this summer saw one of the worst fires in Fairfield's history. The Eclipse BIG-E Lumber Company at North Fourth Street and West Lowe Avenue burned down. The arson fire occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. the night of Sunday, June 18, 1978. Photographer Mort Gaines captured this image of the lumberyard burning.
