Rich Taylor of Mount Pleasant. The American Heart Association organized the event in support of ?pulse-oximetry? testing for all newborns. Small hearts can conceal big challenges, especially when it comes to congenital heart defects, the number one cause of birth-related deaths. Health care advocates say this simple, non-invasive heart defect screening has the potential to save the lives of countless newborns.
