Henry County supervisors appointed Aaron Coakley as Jefferson Township trustee.
Coakley, who will have to run for re-election in 2018, replaces Randy Fehr, who resigned the post. Fehr?s resignation was due to his relocation outside of the township.
Supervisors also suspended property taxes on four parcels of property. The property is owned by people who are receiving SSI benefits.
?We don?t have any choice,? County Auditor Shelly Barber said. ?We receive a letter from the Iowa Department of Human Services and have to suspend the taxes.?
Barber stressed the taxes are only suspended while the individual owns the property. If the property is sold, all the back taxes must be paid, she stated.
Supervisor Chairman Marc Lindeen reported on the recent Southeast Iowa Community Action meeting. He said that the agency has developed a succession plan to replace program directors when the directors resign their position.
The supervisors meet again in regular session Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 9 a.m. in the Henry County Courthouse.
