Washington County Supervisor Abe Miller announced that he will step down from his post effective Jan. 27.
Miller made the announcement at the end of Tuesday morning's Board of Supervisors meeting.
He said that he is stepping down for 'personal reasons.”
'That's really all I want to say at this time,” Miller said, adding that he would have more to say closer to his final day on the board.
Miller is midway through his second term on the Board of Supervisors.
He was first elected in 2014, then reelected to a second term in 2018.
Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer explained how Miller's successor will be named.
'The auditor, treasurer and recorder can make a decision to appoint someone,” Widmer said. 'We could also decide not to appoint someone and have a special election.”
Also, if an appointment is made, any Washington County voter can submit a petition calling for a special election.
Widmer did not immediately know the time period that a petition would have to be filed and how many signatures it would require.
Whoever is appointed or elected would serve out the remainder of Miller's term, which expires at the end of 2022.
