Absentee voting now open for Highland Community School District bond
Aug. 19, 2019 9:31 am
RIVERSIDE - The Highland Community School District is less than a month away from attempting to pass a $3.7 million bond referendum on Sept. 10.
The money would go toward multiple improvement projects for the district including resurfacing the Highland Elementary School playground, replacing windows in the high school building and one rooftop HVAC system would be installed.
Each classroom would have its own controls for temperature and would also provide air conditioning to places that currently do not have any form of climate control, such as the gym. The main Highland building, that includes the middle school and the high school, has been added onto four times. During each of the additions, a different heating/cooling system was used. While the district has a computerized system that is trying to assign a certain temperature, the different systems do not communicate, making the need for one that can be controlled in different setting.
Absentee voting has already begun and ballots are available. Interested voters may do so in person at the Washington County Auditor's Office until 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9. The auditor's office is open form 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 and Monday, Sept. 9.
Ballots can also be mailed to the voter upon a written request. The written request form can be picked up at the auditor's office or downloaded from the county website.
