Accident claims Wayland man

A Wayland man was killed in a two-vehicle accident at 8:15 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and old Highway 34.

Bobby Ethan Mattocks, 41, Wayland, was southbound on Franklin Avenue in a 2001 Ford F150 when his vehicle was struck by a 2009 Kenworth, driven by Dale Eugene Loving, 68, New London, and registered to Fedler and Company.

According to the Iowa State Patrol?s accident report, Loving?s semi failed to yield from the stop sign at the intersection.

Following the impact, Mattocks? vehicle rolled and came to rest in the west ditch of Franklin Avenue. Mattocks was transported to Henry County Health Center by the Henry County Ambulance. The release does not say whether Mattocks died at the scene or at the health center.

The accident remains under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Henry County Sheriff?s Office, Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Department of Transportation Enforcement, Mt. Pleasant Fire and Rescue.
