WASHINGTON — A collision in Kalona on Monday totaled one vehicle and injured its driver, according to emergency responders.
The crash, shortly before 11 a.m. in Kalona Aug. 4, saw a pickup truck collide with an SUV at the intersection of Fifth Street and Highway 22, where the wreck briefly blocked the roadway according to police reports.
An officer’s preliminary accident report said driver Tammie Knerr was headed west on the highway in a Kia, when driver David Jennings pulled from a stop sign onto the eastbound lane in a 2025 Silverado, but crossed the intersection in the process.
The resulting collision totaled the smaller vehicle, and left Knerr “partially entrapped” according to police. The driver was later removed from the car by “non-mechanical means,” and transported to the University of Iowa Emergency Room by a county ambulance. The crash left Jennings’ vehicle with “minimal damage” on the front bumper area.
The accident report did not mention any charges related to the incident, and The Union was unable to find court filings or tickets accusing either driver of traffic infractions in Washington County after the crash.
