Jefferson County?s Special Response Team was called into action early this morning during a four-hour standoff with an armed subject believed to be dangerous.
According to a press release from the Jefferson County Attorney?s Office, the incident began when the Jefferson County Law Center received a 911 call reporting a male subject, later identified as Kelley Robinson, age 45, at 2089 Libertyville Road had pointed a handgun toward the caller. The caller and two other people in the home were able to leave, but the subject remained inside the house.
Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies, Fairfield Police Officers and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene and set up a safe perimeter around the home. During the course of the evening, officers determined that the doors to the home had been barricaded from the inside. For several hours, law enforcement attempted to make contact with the male subject inside the residence by making repeated phone calls and calling out over squad vehicle loud speakers.
At about 4:30 a.m., members of a Jefferson County Special Response Team forced their way into the residence, where they found Robinson with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Robinson was transported by ambulance to Jefferson County Health Center. Jefferson County Attorney Tim Dille said he was unaware of Robinson?s medical condition as of early this afternoon.
No other injuries were reported during the standoff.
Dille said he believed Robinson lived at the address where the standoff took place. Robinson did not respond to repeated attempts at communication. He said authorities don?t know when Robinson might have fired the gun they believe caused his wound. Authorities recovered a handgun at the premises.
Authorities have not ruled out criminal charges, and the incident remains under investigation.
