Ainsworth under boil order after lightning strike
Apr. 24, 2023 12:29 pm
AINSWORTH — Residents of the city of Ainsworth in Washington County are under a boil order for drinking water, after city officials said the local water supply well, “Got struck by lightning so unexpected emergency repairs had to be made.”
The announcement went out just after 3 p.m. Sunday, and instructs that boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water, and the city instructed all consumable water be brought to a boil, left boiling for one minute and allowed to cool before use. Tap water may still be used for bathing and other similar purposes.
