Perna writes book of poetry
Fairfield resident Joseph Perna has written a poetic journey-quest book called ?The Streets of Benares My Love.?
Perna traveled to India for inspiration, and his poetry reflects the ancient and eternal quest for love, God and truth. At times, he combined ancient source materials and verse forms with his own various, contrasting and thoroughly American 21st century invention.
The book is the result of Perna?s travels through the subcontinent and years of study in an ashram in the United States of the religions and philosophies found in India.
Perna earned a bachelor of arts degree in comparative literature and a master of arts degree in Biblical studies at Fordham University in New York. He has been a high school teacher, library worker, cook and home-care provider.
