With his move out of town nearly complete, Riverside Councilperson Andy Rodgers resigned from his position at a meeting Monday night.
“It’s been a pleasure being up here,” Rodgers said. “It really opens your eyes to what is possible and what may seem impossible. I really learned the speed of government isn’t as fast as you’d like, and things can’t just change on a moment’s notice, it all takes work and effort, and if you’re willing to put in the time and effort, it can be rewarding.”
While resignations are typically the first order of business at council meetings, Rodgers remained a voting member for the night, citing his continued residence in town with a relative during the final phases of his move.
Other city officials thanked Rodgers for his time on the council.
“It’s been great working with you and I think you definitely brought a lot to the table,” Councilperson Edgar McGuire said. “I really appreciated it.”
Although his seat was on the ballot for Tuesday’s city and school elections, Rodgers’ term technically runs for the rest of the year. Mayor Allen Schneider said the council might consider appointing an election winner in the interim.
“His term is up at the end of the year, so at the next meeting we can have a discussion if we want to appoint someone,” Schneider said. “Even if the election isn’t official, we’d have a general idea and could probably still make an appointment at that time.”
