Mt. PLEASANT — Main Street Mt. Pleasant’s annual Saving of the Green Beer Walk Thursday night was a huge success.
With 21 businesses participating in the yearly St. Patrick’s Day event, along with the 20-year anniversary celebration of Main Street Mt. Pleasant, the downtown area was thriving with customers far and wide.
Main Street Mt. Pleasant Executive Director Lisa Oetken said the event was a huge success with event tickets selling out.
“The turnout was great,” Oetken said. “We soled out tickets.”
Oetken said that around 230 people turned up to partake in the event, a large increase from years past.
“This year we’ve seen a huge increase in both of our events (wine walk and beer walk),” Oetken said. “Both have been beautiful nights, people were having fun and the leprechaun was sighted. Our restaurants love it because they fill up after. That’s why we do it from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.”
They also offered a five dollar off coupon for event goers, which doubled what one store usually makes on downtown events.
Due to the success of the previous Main Street Mt. Pleasant wine walk event, in which they ran out of cups, Oetken said she came prepared ordering additional cups for the beer walk.
The purpose of the event is for people to come out and have fun while also bringing business to the downtown area stores and shops Oetken said.
“People are coming out and having fun and their shopping,” Oetken said. “That’s the whole purpose of these events, is to get people in the stores and shopping.”
For Oetken, it’s great to see the hard work pay off and to see community support.
“It means a lot,” she said. “We always preach shop local. We’re seeing that more and more. We know that we’re up against Amazon and online sales. We know that. I like that the businesses are working more as a team now. We didn’t just bring people from Mt. Pleasant, we brought people from outside of town for this event.”
