Appreciative of supervisor support

To the editor:

The Jefferson County Alcohol Consumption Task Force (ACT) acknowledges the Jefferson County Board of Supervisors for partnering with the coalition in the effort to reduce county underage drinking by unanimously adopting a local social host ordinance.

In careful consultation with the task force, Jefferson County Attorney, Jefferson County Sheriff and State Representative Curt Hanson, the supervisors? unity displayed high regard for youth health and community safety.

The ACT Coalition understands the ordinance can only punish behavior, real sustained change comes from education. We hope this ordinance and the action of the board of supervisors is the first step in the community education process.

No one spoke in opposition to the policy during the public hearing meetings. However, comments from the supervisors indicate citizens have had questions.
