Southeast Iowa girls basketball teams around the area had an eventful night last Tuesday.
Winfield continued their early-season dominance with a 67-21 win over Hillcrest Academy.
The Wolves held the Ravens to single digits in every quarter, the highest being six points.
Hillcrest Academy was outscored 20-5 in the first, 22-4 in the second, 17-6 in the third, and 8-6 in the fourth.
Bradie Buffington led the Wolves with 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, 11 being offensive. Keetyn Townsley finished with 16 points and four steals.
Melina Oepping ended with 13 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Keely Malone scored eight points with four rebounds and four assists.
Jobey Malone and Carlee Sloan both scored four. Kailey Neil and Anna Anderson both added two points.
The Wolves are now 2-0, will look to stay undefeated on Nov. 30 against Pekin, while the Ravens, 0-2, will look to get their first win against Mediapolis.
Mid-Prairie downed Durant 57-37 in their first game of the season.
Amara Jones led the Golden Hawks in scoring with 21 points, six steals, four rebounds, and four assists.
Maddie Nonnenmann added 10 points with six rebounds. Landry Pacha also finished with 10 points.
Maya Nonnenmann scored eight. Nora Pennington ended with six and Halli Hershberger, two.
Mid-Prairie, 1-0, will look to continue their early success on Nov. 30 against West Liberty.
The Wildcats couldn’t find an answer on either side of the ball, falling to the Bulldogs 74-14.
Columbus was outscored 23-7, 25-0, 18-6, and 8-1.
Victoria Howell, Sera Vela, and Libby White all scored three points for the Wildcats.
Columbus is now 0-2 to start the season and will look to get their first win on Nov. 29 against New London.
Pekin struggled to find the basket in a loss to Lone Tree.
The Panthers didn’t score above eight points in any quarter against the Lions last week.
Pekin was outscored by the Lions, 4-1 in the first and 8-5 in the second quarter and 16-8 in both the third and fourth quarters.
Pekin was led by Makenzie Dahlstrom and Emma Phillips, who both scored nine points. Dahlstrom pulled down four rebounds and picked up three steals. Phillips also pulled down nine rebounds.
Sabrina Reneker added two points. Sarah Eubanks and Taylor Gambell both scored a point apiece.
Pekin, 0-1, will look to get their first win against a formidable Winfield opponent on Nov. 30.
New London girls lost their Southeast Iowa Superconference South Division opener 62-29.
New London is now 0-3 on the year. The Tigers will face off against Columbus on Nov. 29.
Notre Dame proved to be too much for the Warriors in their first game of the season.
The Warrior fell in the contest 70-24.
WACO was outscored 24-6 at the end of the first quarter and trailed at halftime 44-11. In the second half, the Warriors were outscored 26-13.
Ellah Kissell led all Warriors in scoring with 17 points. Grace Coble ended the matchup with three points, five rebounds, and three blocks.
Katie Leichty and Natalie West both added two points apiece.
The Warriors, now 0-1, will take on Holy Trinity Catholic on Nov. 30.
Cardinal suffers their first loss of the season at the hands of Central Lee.
The Comets fell in the matchup, 54-32.
Central Lee outscored Cardinal in all but three quarters. The Comets scored just eight points over the first two quarters, trailing at the half 28-8. The Comets turned their play around in the second half, but too much damage was already done.
Cardinal, 1-1, will have a tough matchup in their next contest at Burlington Notre Dame.
