Area girls? teams run at Bob Gerard Relays

ELDON ? The Cardinal girls? track squad had to wait until the postseason to host its annual track meet, but made sure the meet was well worth the wait.
The Comets won six events and scored 101 points to finish in second place at its own Bob Gerard Relays in Eldon Monday. Van Buren won the delayed meet with 115 points.
Jordan Smith led the Comets with a win in the 100-meter dash (13.00), and she also anchored the 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley relays to first place.
Lindsay Albert was 200-meter dash champion in 28.65 seconds. Albert also was a member of the 4x100, 4x200 and sprint medley relays with Jordan Smith. Liz Nichols and Andrea Kayser were the other members of the sprint medley and 4x100, and Nichols and Alexis Adam ran on the winning 4x200.
Danielle Wycoff won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:15.1 and was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.85 seconds.
Additional second-place finishes came from Kaiti Corwin in the 400-meter hurdles (1:24.1), Nichols in the 100-dash (14.17), and the distance medley relay (5:40.3).
The Comets are at I-35 in Truro for their Class 2A regional meet Thursday.
Warriors claim first
ELDON ? The Van Buren girls? track team won its first meet of the season at the Bob Gerard Relays Monday.
The Warriors scored 115 points to best second-place Cardinal by 14. Davis County JV and Harmony finished third and fourth, respectively, with 59 points apiece.
Van Buren won six events, and Hanna Haynes had two of them with victories in the high jump (4? 8?) and 100-meter hurdles (16.12). Unity Daugherty was 1,500-meter champion with a 5:29 finish and Caitlyn Millard won the open-800 at 2:57. The distance medley featuring Jordan Billups, Jansen Heckenberg, Alicia Fitzsimmons and Unity Daugherty won, as did Van Buren?s 4x800 team of Fitzsimmons, Jessie Cassens, Hallie Whitten and Faith Murphy.
Runner-up finishes included Haynes in the long jump (15? 7?), Courtney Hervey in the discus (75? 2?) and Savannah Findley in the shot put (24? 3?). The shuttle hurdle, sprint medley and 4x400 relays came in second, as well.
The Warriors will be back on the oval Thursday for Class 2A regionals in Tipton.
MSAE takes fifth
ELDON ? Essa Johnson and Jackie Goodale led the Maharishi School girls with a pair of top finishes at Monday?s Bob Gerard Relays in Eldon.
Johnson topped the long jump field by more than 2 inches with a top jump of 15-feet, 9.5-inches. Goodale tacked on a runner-up finish in the 400 with a clocking of 1:09.2.
The Pioneers scored 16 points in the five-team field.
