Area towns celebrate Independence Day
Washington will celebrate Independence Day with a walk back in time. On Monday, July 4, one of the Founding Mothers will read the declaration of Independence at 11 a.m. in Central Park. Visitors to the event can speak with Stacy Rinner, a colonial gentlewoman with vast knowledge of what life was like in colonial times. She will also speak about what she witnessed as the nation was born.

Washington will celebrate Independence Day with a walk back in time. On Monday, July 4, one of the Founding Mothers will read the declaration of Independence at 11 a.m. in Central Park. Visitors to the event can speak with Stacy Rinner, a colonial gentlewoman with vast knowledge of what life was like in colonial times. She will also speak about what she witnessed as the nation was born.
The other events in Washington are a free swim from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Washington Steele Family Aquatic Center provided by Just Cause. The fireworks will be that night at dusk.
The city of Wellman will also have a celebration this weekend. The fun begins Saturday with a bags tournament at Bender?s Bar and Grill and The Well at 1 p.m. Sand volleyball tournament will last all day at North Park. The Heritage Museum will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. The downtown street dance on Eighth Avenue starts at 8:30 p.m. The gates open at 7 p.m. The band performing is Slick Willey.
On Sunday, the Wellman Ball Association will have a car show, and the awards for it are at 3 p.m.
Monday begins with a Sunrise Childcare 5K Freedom Run at 8 a.m. The kiddy parade is at 9:30 a.m. and the main parade begins at 10 a.m. The Heritage Museum will be open from 1-3 p.m.
The Wellman Community Y will have ?water wars,? bake sale, sidewalk chalk, jump rope and a scavenger hunt at North Park from 1-4 p.m. Windy Acres pony rides and bingo in the main shelter are from 1-7 p.m.
Ball tournaments will last all day. There is music at the bandshell from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
