Area towns prepare for Fourth of July with celebrations

With the Fourth of July just days away, area towns are preparing diligently for the big celebration.

In Washington, there will be no Farmers Market, but the first Thursday Night Live of the season will kick off with 'Smith.” The Washington Municipal Band will take the stage at 8 p.m. and the annual fireworks show will follow at the Washington County Fairgrounds beginning at dusk.

In Wellman, festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m., with a kiddie parade and will be followed by the main parade at 10 a.m. Following the parades, a number of family events will be held in North Park and the downtown Heritage Museum as well as historic buildings at the Hertigage Park will be open for tours.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to North Park to hear local musicians play before fireworks are exploded at dusk.

The annual Fourth of July celebration in Wayland will kick off at 6:30 a.m., with a breakfast provided by the Wayland Lions Club and continue with a walk for the wetlands at 7:30 a.m. and a parade down Main street at 10:30 a.m. The day will continue with a variety of activities such as lunch at WACO High School, firefighter water games, a bags tournament and will conclude with fireworks at dusk on the WACO High School football field. In the event of rain, fireworks will be displayed July 5. Fireworks can be set off in the City of Wayland from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. July 4 and from 5-11 p.m. June 29 and 30 and July 6 and 7.
