Two vehicle-deer accidents were investigated last week by the Henry County Sheriff?s Office, one of which involved an arrest.
Deputies were summoned on May 4 to a report of a vehicle hitting a deer near the intersection of 335th Street and U.S. Highway 218.
Following an investigation, it was learned that Ashley Fields, Andover, Minn., was driving in the southbound lane of Highway 218 when she struck a deer on the left front quarter/bumper area of her vehicle. The vehicle sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.
The sheriff?s office was informed May 2 of a vehicle-deer accident near the 3100 block of U.S. Highway 218.
It was determined that Barry Hayes, Florissant, Mo., was driving a 2017 Dodge Caravan in the southbound lane of Highway 218 when he struck a deer in the front grill/bumper area. The vehicle was a total loss and had to be towed from the scene.
Further investigation revealed that a passenger in the vehicle, Kenneth Diggs, St. Louis, Mo., had an active warrant from the State of Missouri for probation violation. Diggs was placed under arrest and transported to the Henry County Jail where he is temporarily being held until arrangements can be made for Missouri officials to transport him back to St. Louis.
