Arson at E3 Center

The E3 Center, located on East Washington Street was set on fire last night.

According to a press release from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, at approximately 10:22 p.m., Monday night the Mt. Pleasant Police Department was dispatched to the E3 Center for a fire with people being evacuated. It was determined that the fire had been set on the docks on the back side of the building, stated the release.

Two juvenile suspects were identified as being involved and were subsequently held at the Lee County Juvenile Detention Center.

Damage from the fire was mostly contained to the area on the back side of the building, however smoke entered the building and caused a large amount of damage, according to the release.

This investigation was partially a result of concerned citizens assisting by calling in suspicious activity, according to the release. Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and the Iowa State Fire Marshal?s office also assisted at the scene.
