Representatives from the Jefferson County Assessor?s Office have begun going door-to-door in Fairfield to make physical inspections of properties, Jefferson County Assessor Sheri Blough Neff said.
These inspections are done once every five to seven years, Blough said, explaining that they look for physical problems with homes and structures that could impact property values. They also note any structures that have been removed or taken down by storm damage in addition to recording new decks, patios or other new construction.
Blough said workers from the assessor?s office come alone rather than in teams. They knock on the door of each residence, identify themselves, and explain why they are there. If nobody responds, they leave a tag on the door. Blough said it is important that property owners complete the tag and return it as instructed.
Inspections are currently being done in the southwest portion of Fairfield and will continue all summer. Eventually, visits will be made to properties in all surrounding towns in Jefferson County, as well.
If residents have questions or would like more information, they should call the assessor?s office at 472-2849.
