Auditor reminds residents of polling place changes

WASHINGTON — County Auditor Dan Widmer advised residents to double check their polling places before the primary election June 7. Many in the county have new precincts after the most recent round of redistricting responded to statewide census data.

“If citizens have questions they may call the Auditor’s office at 319-653-7717 and we will be happy to assist,” he said. “Our goal is to make the voting process on Election Day … as easy and convenient as possible. Of course, citizens may still vote prior to Election Day by visiting the Auditor’s office located in the Washington County Courthouse during weekday hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and also on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.”

Precincts are now located in Wellman, Brighton, Kalona, Richmond, Riverside, Ainsworth, and all four wards of Washington, meaning Crawfordsville and West Chester have lost their status as polling places.

Even in cities that remain precincts, some, like Riverside, have changed the location of the polls from the previous decade.

“There have been some changes due to redistricting and I so I encourage people to verify the location of their polling place prior to Election Day,” Widmer said. “This may be accomplished by visiting sos.iowa.gov and then clicking on ‘Find Your Precinct/Polling Place.’ Citizens may also check on their polling place by going to the Washington County website.”

The Ainsworth Precinct (BOS Dist 3) votes at Ainsworth Elementary School: 835 Park St., Ainsworth.

The area includes Oregon Township, the city of Crawfordsville, Crawford Township and Marion Township (lying S of Fern Cliff Rd & E of Redwood Ave.)

The Brighton Precinct (BOS Dist 1) votes at the Brighton Community Building: 100 E. Washington St., Brighton.

The area includes Brighton Township, the city of Coppock, Clay Township, Dutch Creek Township, Marion Township (lying west of Coppock Road and south of 315th Street,) Franklin Township (lying south of Hwy 92 & North of 250th Street,) and Washington Township (lying west of Hwy 1 and north of 250th, excluding the city of Washington.)

The Kalona Precinct (BOS Dist 2) votes at the Kalona Community Building Gym: 307 Sixth St., Kalona.

The area includes English River Township (lying E of Hwy 1 and north of the section of 140th Street that turns north onto Orange Avenue and back to the East onto 135th Street.)

Richmond Precinct (BOS Dist 2) Holy Trinity Parish Hall

The area includes English River Township (lying W of Hwy 1 & 573 Howard St., Richmond also that part lying E of Hwy 1 & S of that section of 140th St that turns N onto Orange Ave & back to the E on 135th St,) the town of Richmond (lying S of 140th St,) Jackson Township (lying W of Riverside Rd & N of 190th St,) Cedar Township (lying E of Juniper Ave & N of 190th St.)

Riverside Precinct (BOS Dist 3) now votes at the Riverside Fire Station: 271 River St., Riverside.

The area includes Iowa Township and Highland Township.

Ward 1 Precinct (BOS Dist 5) votes at the Washington Community YMCA. 520 W. Fifth St., Washington.

The area includes Washington Township (outside the city limits lying E Hwy 1 & W of Riverside Rd,) Jackson Township (lying S of 190th St & also that portion lying E of Riverside Rd & S of 160th St.)

Ward 2 Precinct (BOS Dist 5) First Assembly of God, 1602 E. Washington St., Washington.

The area includes Washington Township (outside the city limits lying E of Riverside Rd on the N side of the City and continuing E of Airport Rd & Wayland Rd on the S side of the City,) and Marion Township (lying E of Wayland Rd, N of Fern Cliff Rd & W of Redwood Ave)

Ward 3 Precinct (BOS Dist 4) votes at the United Presbyterian Home Stewart Hall Chapel, 1203 E. Washington St., Washington.

The area includes Washington Township (outside the City limits lying W of Airport Rd, including that area lying N of 275th St, E of Wayland Rd & E of Coppock Rd, excluding City of Coppock)

Ward 4 Precinct (BOS Dist 4) Halcyon House, S Ave B Entrance, Washington.

The area includes Franklin Township (lying S of 250th St,) Washington Township (outside the City limits lying W of Wayland Rd & west of Coppock Rd,) and Marion Township (lying W of Coppock Rd & N of 315th St)

Wellman Precinct (BOS Dist 1) Parkside Activities Center. 525 13th St., Wellman.

The area includes Lime Creek Township, Seventy-six Township, Cedar Township (lying W of Juniper Ave & N of 190th St & also lying S of 190th St,) Franklin Township (lying N of Hwy 92,) and the city of West Chester.
