Avenue of Flags announces plans for Veterans Day observance
Mt. Pleasant?s Veterans Day observance begins at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Hall, 300 W. Monroe St. The observance is sponsored by the Avenue of Flags.
Dean King, Avenue of Flags chairman and honor guard commander, will serve as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Deborah Stowers of First United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant, will deliver the invocation and benediction.

Mt. Pleasant?s Veterans Day observance begins at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Hall, 300 W. Monroe St. The observance is sponsored by the Avenue of Flags.

Students from Mt. Pleasant Community High School will sign the National Anthem and also play Taps. Andrew Grove is the vocal music instructor at MPCHS and Jim DePriest handles the instrumental music department.
All commanders or their designees of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and AMVETS posts located in the county are invited to speak for two minutes. Those speaking should make themselves known at the podium prior to 10:30 a.m.
At approximately 11 a.m., the Henry County Honor Guard will fire three volleys in honor of all veterans.
Eighteen names being added to the Veterans Memorial at the courthouse will be acknowledged. This brings the total names listed on the memorial to 1,278.
