The Fairfield Beautification Commission presented the fire station with an appreciation plaque for new landscaping Wednesday. The facelift was a community volunteer project Sept. 11 as a local part of the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The station added a sturdy steel frame to the large bell, manufactured in St. Louis and planted flowers, shrubs and a tree. They also added a small walkway curving behind the flagpole and a bench that matches those around Fairfield square. A small red fire hydrant, a Dalmation dog statue and fireman statue carrying a child complete the scene. On hand at the award presentation were, from left, fire department driver Ryan Kurka, fire chief, Scott Vaughan, retired assistant fire chief Glen ?Bud? Dimmitt, commission members Karin Quass-Hauring, Nancy Morrissey and Lou Bolster.
