Fairfield's newly organized booster club, the Band-Aides, will have its kick-off meeting at 7 p.m. Friday at the Fairfield High School Stadium.
The meeting of band supporters is open to anyone who has a child in band or has a strong interest in the Fairfield Community School District's fifth- through 12th-grade band program.
There will be a short informational meeting, followed by a field exhibition by both the middle school and high school bands to demonstrate what the students have been working on for the fall marching season.
With the growing number of band members, there is a need for more booster club participants to help with out of town band trips, concessions and special events, say the Band-Aides organizers.
The Band-Aides' mission is "to provide support and encouragement for the academic and competitive excellence of the Fairfield band program."
Some of the accomplishments of the booster club with the help of the Greater Jefferson County Foundation so far have been the purchase of a new utility trailer with the logo, "amplify your mind" on the side. The trailer is used to transport the band's large instruments and also, this year, new flags purchased for the flag and drill team.
Some of the goals of the Band-Aides are to keep the current uniforms in good shape, to acquire a jacket for a middle school uniform, acquire and repair some used instruments for students to rent, and to host a field competition some time in the next few years.
Roger Gay is the president of Band-Aides, Greg Hanshaw is the vice-president, Arvin Bogaards is treasurer and Terry Drobny is the secretary. Fees to join the booster club are $10 per family. Questions may be directed to Drobny at 472-6004.
