Band does well in competition

Mt. Pleasant Community High School jazz bands placed well in two competitions the past weekend. At the Coe Jazz Summit in Cedar Rapids, Jazz 2 placed first in Class 3A second bands while Jazz 1 placed second in Class 3A.

Two members of Jazz 1 ? Ann Steffensmeier, trombone, and Aminn Ellis, baritone saxophone ? were among four in Class 3A to be named honorable mention musicians.

Both Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 won first-place honors in their respective categories among seven Class 3A bands at the Indian Hills Community College Jazz Fest in Ottumwa.

Both jazz bands, along with the middle school jazz band, compete in the district jazz festival March 7 at Iowa City West High School. In the above photo, Jazz 1 performs at the high school variety show in January.
