Basil Rose, 96, of Lecanto, Fla., and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in Florida.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Olson- Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

Basil Rose, 96, of Lecanto, Fla., and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in Florida.

Rose was born on Aug. 17, 1919, in Fox River Township, Davis County, the son of Frank and Cora Avis (Coop) Rose. He attended a country school in Davis County. In 1942, he married Roberta Rutliff, in Kirksville, Mo. She preceded him in death. He then married Jeanne Pohlson, in Mt. Pleasant. She also preceded him in death.
As a young adult, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corp. He also held positions with Pioneer, in the Quad Cities, the Iowa Ammunitions Plant, in Middletown, Trailways Bus, where he worked as a mechanic and a driver, BF Goodrich, for DJ Martin as a mechanic. He retired from Colonial Baking Company, in Mt. Pleasant. Upon retirement, he worked in maintenance at the PEO Home and delivered cars for Shottenkirk.
He attended Calvary Baptist Church, in Mt. Pleasant.
Rose is survived by his three children, Roger (Mary) Rose, of Wickenburg, Ariz., Shirley (Jim) Knorr, of Pleasant Plains, Ill., and Donna (Don) Simmons, of Lecanto, Fla.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Doris (Arel) Hulen, of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; four brothers, Loyd, Robert, Donald, and Dean Rose; and one sister, Vonda Long.
